Getting my miles in

I've decided to bike/walk/run to Monterey, CA.  Well, not actually.  I don't have enough time or a high enough fitness level to do it IRL.  What I am doing is making a google earth video of the distances I did that day and making my own little log that way.  The first two days represent time spent on the exercise bike.

I couldn't figure out how to get the darn thing to exit at my exit and it looked like a truck cut me off, so that kind of worked.  Ended up having to make a u-turn.  LOL  Then I was on the wrong side of the road, but to heck with it.  I just left that one.

I also didn't start at my actual home, but rather the place we lived before this one.  I figure the miles are the same but then my address isn't quite so public.

On the second day I only went a couple of more miles.

now that I have my fitbit charger cord back I will start adding my daily miles from walking/running to the total .

Working & working out

Yesterday was my first real weekend back to work.  Being a professional balloon artist is a seasonal life.  Winter is very quiet but Spring can hit with a vengeance.

When you do it right, my job is HARD.  I have to make it look easy, but it's quite a workout.  I use My Fitness Pal to track workouts and while they don't have "making balloons" they do have fishing while standing which is kind of the same thing.  I do walk some, but not as much as people imagine.  I move my arms a lot and do a lot of squats and bending over, but not so much walking.  I didn't get a lot of steps in from work even though I burned 600 calories at the gig.

But I like my steps so I have to force myself past the exhaustion to get moving later.

My other job - crochet/knitting design - that requires a lot of sitting.  With that one I have to force myself to stop, stand up and move, but it's easier since I'm not worn out.

Today is a balloon day though.  I will be busking downtown and I'm going to be stationary, not roaming, so I'll have to remember to take steps back and forth so the fitbit knows I'm moving!  Busking can be less intensive than working a party since the lines aren't guaranteed.  Makes moving around a little easier, unless it's a swamped day.  Hoping for that kind of day though.  I love to get my steps in, but I'm pretty fond of paying the bills too.  :-)

Working or just working out today - starting over or keeping a streak alive - beginner or certified gym rat...wherever you are on your fitness path, wishing a healthy day to you!

And here's a balloon

Fitbit Cheers

Community is wonderful for anyone trying to keep on a certain path of change.  Doesn't matter if it's to lose weight, get in better shape, stop smoking, read more, learn a new skill......  Having support makes it easier.

When I was wrestling with computer issues my steps got lower.  Because I was sitting in a chair and not walking.   My community of friends on Fitbit and Spark People noticed and sent me encouragement.  I got a lot of "cheers" and even more when I started catching up to my goals again.

It really made me feel good.  No way to screen shot the whole list, because it goes on and on and on, but you get the idea.

It's motivating to have a cheering section.  People who want you to succeed, even if they only know you online.  Family and friends are supportive and probably the best cheering section - but a group of like minded people with the same goal means a lot.  I'm glad I have that.

Morning Check In

Not a bad day, even if I did drop on my fitbit friends list.  Some of those folks move a lot and I'm going to have to step it up to catch them!  I am currently #9 out of 49.    The person at #1 currently has 129k steps and averages 21000 a day.  I'm sitting at 13474 a day, so like I said, it's going to take some work.  Of course the top 3 people are working on marathons and it may be awhile before I catch up with their long runs!

Morning Check In

A little competition is good for the soul!

I'm at #9 this morning.  Yesterday I moved up and down a lot as several fitbit friends and I outdid each other.  It's motivating.  :-)

I don't include a screenshot that shows my water, but I have been drinking it pretty consistently for a couple of weeks now.  My hair is one of the first places that shows when I'm well hydrated.  I guess it's the scalp and not the hair itself.  Whatever - I just know I have bouncy hair.  :-)

Morning Check In

Woke up with that annoying cough that comes from sleeping while sick.  You start moving and so does the mucus.  But beyond that I have to say I am feeling 100% better than I was when I got up yesterday.  Instead of fighting the urge to go straight back to bed I've been thinking about all the stuff I'm going to get done today.  It's a long list.

I did more steps yesterday - another sign I am getting over this, though I did fewer stairs.  Much fewer gaps of total inactivity.

Eating was still only so so.  Craving fat and protein because it's that time in my cycle when I do that.

Looking forward to a healthier, more productive day!

"morning" check in

yesterday was better, but not as much as I expected to get done.  I started coming down with the kiddo's head cold towards the afternoon.  That's also the reason my morning check in is coming way after the clock hits noon.  I'm self employed and I felt so awful that the boss (usually a hard nose about these sort of things) let me have the day off.  I went right to bed before minds could be changed.  Many hours of sleep and 3 water bottle refills later I have found the energy to stagger from the bed to the computer so I must be starting to mend.  :-)

Anyway - this was yesterday.  The sugar was so high because too many of the calories came from a mocha.  I didn't have much of an appetite, but I did have a performer gathering to host, so I went out and had a mocha instead of food.  Not much food yet today either, but I will try to find something healthy.

Morning check in post

I was so focused on work yesterday that I didn't make time for myself.  I did some ab work, but no real cardio.  Luckily I have a big day planned so I will hopefully get my numbers back up.

Over all calorie intake wasn't too bad - but I was too high on fat and sugar.  Had some real cravings for meat and ice cream yesterday (no, I'm not pregnant).  Even though I didn't eat much ice cream, it totally destroyed my sugar numbers for the day.  Something to think about when making food choices today.

Yesterday's fitbit total

I didn't work out yesterday and it shows.

Only got to 40% of my goals.

I did update Daily Mile with my fitbit steps from the year, but so far it has not updated my miles for the year - though it shows daily stuff on m profile.  Not sure what's up with that.  I want to track my miles for the year so I may have to find another place to do it.
